Hey Circle!
This workshop is all about PR! What is PR?
Well, for us, it’s simply the process of reaching out to influencers in order to encourage them to share our work with their audiences/communities.
Social media, blogging, and a mailing list are examples of marketing where we reach out to our own network. Using PR, we can reach out to someone else’s network – and therefore expand our own (possibly rapidly).
P.S. You may hear a bit of hissing in the background in some parts of the recording – that’s because it was raining quite heavily on our tin roof!

Hi Jess
Awesome, awesome, awesome workshop! Thanks so much. I felt as though you were talking directly to me and I have learnt heaps about what to do, how to do it and who to target my pitch to. This is just what I needed at exactly the right time so I am really grateful for all the work you have put in to deliver this to us.
One question regarding the photos though ( not my strong point) – how can I tell whether my photos are low res or high res? I have been using my i phone to take and upload photos to both my FB page and my website and I’m not sure what res they are.
Again, thank you – now I’m off to do some research and make a plan for my first pitch. Exciting!
Sarah from Birdie Hill x
Hi Sarah. Well, the definitions vary – but for print, the image has to be at 300dpi resolution (whereas low res is usually 72dpi). High res photos will be the full size you took with your camera, at 300dpi. You can reduce the file size by reducing the dimensions – down to, say, 300-500 pixels wide for an image you want to email.
Hi Jess – thank you. I’ll have a play around and see what I can discover! x
Also Jess, I have to share this and it can be copied and pasted anywhere you want. A couple of days ago my paypal was debited the $15 fee for the circle. I have enjoyed my experience with the group but funds are just so tight and I thought I might give it up. I had the Shift course to refer to and some times it was hard to find the time to join in the conversation. I also hadn’t had time to look at the monthly courses, so I thought maybe I’ll stop the payment. WELL, over lunch yesterday I logged in to this months course on PR and was BLOWN AWAY with all the information you gave. It was worth 100 times the piddly $15! You just make so much sense to me, for PR and the other couple I watched……once I’d done one I couldn’t stop. When I started Everlasting Unity Art I paid a writer to do copy for my website, flyers and a press release. She was not a fellow creative and nothing I got back felt right and I used only a small section, certainly not the press release as it made me feel uneasy somehow, like something I didn’t feel comfortable sending because the words didn’t sound like they came out of my mouth. I’ve been saying for months to my husband that I need to do PR, and I think I’ll get picked up because I’m so different but didn’t know what direction to take and now I know exactly what to do and where to start sending it to. I’m compiling lists now. The way you said that we would face rejection was comforting too as I don’t cope with rejection well. If someone unsubscribes to my newsletter I take it totally to heart and it lays me flat for days. Now I know that it’s not personal. The content you suggest to write in the emails sits really well with me as does the plan for followup, I think on my own I would not have been able to face a follow up, let alone what to do with it. Sorry for the long wind Jess I just wanted to let you know how much I value you, your knowledge and your sharing nature. And when I get my next $15 notification from paypal I’ll just smile 🙂
Much love

I’m just catching up on these workshops (really helpful btw)…I was wondering if you found that the growing trend of bloggers/magazines asking for money in exchange for product promotion has impacted the likelihood of being featured for free? Thanks!
For sure. Back in the day, no money changed hands. These days, most bigger blogs will ask for fees for dedicated features. However, it’s still worth pitching them! You never know…
True! Thanks for the reply 🙂
