August 2015 Call

We had another great Business Intensive this month with Lindsey from Candied Cottons.

Lots of great stuff was talked through in this Call so listen in for more.

Sarah asked: Hi, I’ve got a Q if you can fit it in: I’m redoing my photos. I’ve got at least 100. I’m wondering how much variety I need eg say I’ve got ~30 cards, do I need a few different backgrounds or is one ok? (I am changing backgrounds for different products)

Megan asked: Question for call: as a jewelry seller who also teaches other handmade business owners how to run their own businesses,  you probably get a lot of non-buyers who sign up for your jewelry mailing list to observe and learn from you.  How do you calculate this into your mailing list’s conversion rate? And do you attempt to remove any of these subscribers when they start making you have to pay for the higher priced email plan even though you know they aren’t ever going to buy your jewelry?

Betty asked: I have two very different product lines:
  1. OOAK abstract, intuitive small paintings, as well is giclee prints. Price range of originals $30-40 USD.
  2. Reverse gilded glass platters and bowls. These are handmade production pieces. $350-500 USD.
I’m trying to create a website and plan for art fair booths. Can I combine them? I’m thinking of different site names:
  • Jane Smith Studio
  • Jane Smith Art
  • Jane Smith Art & Design
Or should I run two entirely different businesses? In the US “Old Navy” and “The Gap” are owned by the same parent company, but have different customers. Two businesses would drive me nuts tho. Any words of wisdom?
