Hey Circle!
How are you going with our current book, The $100 Startup? We’ll continue discussing that in the Circle for the next few weeks.
But it’s time to announce our next book – Getting Things Done by David Allen.
For any of you who have struggled with getting everything done (do I see all hands raised?), this book will help you to organise your business – and, possibly, your life.
I haven’t read it before – though I’ve heard David interviewed, and read plenty of articles and references to the method over the years, so I’m really looking forward to this one.
Happily, there is a brand-new, updated edition out, published in the last month. I’ll be buying and reading the updated version – but if you can only get your hands on an original edition (published in 2002) then that will be okay, too – the fundamentals haven’t changed.
Also, if you love making lists, the GTD method will be a dream come true. And if you don’t… it might just help you look at them in a new way, and revolutionise how you work.
This book is available as a paper or digital edition.

“A completely revised and updated edition of the blockbuster bestseller from “the personal productivity guru” (Fast Company)
Since it was first published almost fifteen years ago, David Allen’s Getting Things Done has become one of the most influential business books of its era, and the ultimate book on personal organization. “GTD” is now shorthand for an entire way of approaching professional and personal tasks, and has spawned an entire culture of websites, organizational tools, seminars, and offshoots.
Allen has rewritten the book from start to finish, tweaking his classic text with important perspectives on the new workplace, and adding material that will make the book fresh and relevant for years to come. This new edition of Getting Things Done will be welcomed not only by its hundreds of thousands of existing fans but also by a whole new generation eager to adopt its proven principles.”

It was great to read a book as a group last month with the Circle and there has been some really great chat about To Sell Is Human by Daniel Pink. If you haven’t left your comments, head over to the Facebook Group and find the post where Jess has started the conversation.
We’re getting ready to start reading our next book – The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau which is about opting out of a traditional work environment and becoming an entrepreneur on a small amount of startup capital. He’s identified a stack of people who have done just this and distilled the information and wisdom from these business owners into a book which teaches us those important lessons.
You can purchase it online or just check it out of your local library sometime over the following month. We’ll then all discuss it on the Facebook forum in the last week of this month.
If you are struggling to get your hands on a copy, it’s also available on Kindle which you can also download to some phones and devices.
Let’s get reading 🙂

“In The $100 Startup, Chris Guillebeau shows you how to lead of life of adventure, meaning and purpose – and earn a good living.
In preparing to write this book, Chris identified 1,500 individuals who have built businesses earning $50,000 or more from a modest investment (in many cases, $100 or less), and from that group he’s chosen to focus on the 50 most intriguing case studies. In nearly all cases, people with no special skills discovered aspects of their personal passions that could be monetized, and were able to restructure their lives in ways that gave them greater freedom and fulfillment.
Here, finally, distilled into one easy-to-use guide, are the most valuable lessons from those who’ve learned how to turn what they do into a gateway to self-fulfillment. It’s all about finding the intersection between your “expertise” – even if you don’t consider it such — and what other people will pay for. You don’t need an MBA, a business plan or even employees. All you need is a product or service that springs from what you love to do anyway, people willing to pay, and a way to get paid.
In ancient times, people who were dissatisfied with their lives dreamed of finding magic lamps, buried treasure, or streets paved with gold. Today, we know that it’s up to us to change our lives. And the best part is, if we change our own life, we can help others change theirs. This remarkable book will start you on your way.”
