I’ve heard that hashtags don’t work for driving traffic if you post them more than a few minutes after the original photo post. IG has started listing the posts in each hashtag by the time the photo was posted, not by the time the tag was added. If the hashtag has more than 10,000 photos in it, yours will get a little buried. Does that make sense?

Lindsey – if that is the case, then posting the hashtags in your comments is definitely something to do straight away!

This was great, thank you Jess, just what I needed as I’ve only recently started on Instagram. This has saved me a lot of searching and trying to gather the information I needed to get it off the ground. It has basically answered ALL of my questions! 🙂 Tracy (@hobohandmade)

I do not get hashtags!! Instagram seems like a lot of work. Not sure if its one I want to go down. Just trying to get my website set up and listing things on etsy is overwhelming enough for me. Thanks for the workshop. I’ve learnt a lot about IG!!

Finally working my way through the workshops after 7 months of membership lol. Just wanted to add to your “hashtag bank” and suggest creating a shortcut on your devices so you don’t even have to go into notes. I have different shortcuts for different groups of hashtags and leave room for adding extras as needed.

    Great idea, Deb!

I have a funny thing happening on Instagram. At the moment my feed is a showcase of pictures with the occasional craft item. I will set up a business feed specially for my shop. Your workshop has motivated and inspired me to do so.
My point is that I get regular new followers but lose followers just as quick. Last week I dropped 6 in one day. I feel there are a lot people who follow do that to get me to follow them and if I don’t they cancel. Has anyone had a similar problem?

I’m not sure about Instagram. I have an account and after listening to this workshop I am following some people in my field. But I dont take photos with my phone but I have to if I want to put them on instagram. Dont I? And Jess, how do you get the wordy images…
Maybe I will stick with FB and try Pinterest.

  9. Jess Van Den

Definitely do what works for you, Suze! You can transfer photos on to your phone to upload them to IG, or you can use a web-based app like Grum to upload. And I use Canva to make my quote images.

    Hello Marijke,

This is a bit late to your question, but anyway, here comes… what you say is EXACTLY what I am experiencing too. I have started instagramming very recently, and I find it extremely annoying, that people do two things: a) they click to follow me, but if I don´t click to follow them, after few days they unfollow me. It seems that they only want me to follow their account as well, and if I don´t do that, they stop following me. b) some people, often friends (en kennissen) start to follow, but they NEVER like anything or comment anything. What´s the point to follow if you never even like anything what I post…
So that is very very weird!
