| More About Me | I am Rebecca and I am Blue Radish! I am a sole operator designing, printing and making things with my original fabrics in Canberra, Australia. I have been sewing for as long as I can remember, taught, as many of us are, by my mother and grandmother and then by my own trial and error. Oh yes! There were a few of those!! But I just love creating sewn pieces – it is so satisfying and relatively quick. I have never had the patience for knitting so sewing is perfect for me! Screen-printing came a bit later. I used the medium in high school art but only returned to it as an escape from my role as a stay-at-home-mum in 2008. I took a couple of courses at the wonderful Megalo Print Studio and Gallery in Canberra where I learned to use photo-emulsion and to print in repeat and my passion for hand-printed fabric was ignited. Of course this married very well to my love of sewing and Blue Radish was born. The thing I love most about screen printing is the moment you first lift up the screen on a new design and see what is underneath! Something simple put into repeat becomes something quite special. A couple of years ago I tried going back to the working world after ten years as a stay-at-home-mum. I discovered that, although my three children are at school now, I still want to be with them after school. And I still want to create. So, to redress the balance, in 2015 I took the plunge and resigned to run Blue Radish full-time. Now I design and hand-print my original fabrics and craft them into beautiful, useful pieces for you and your home. My passion is to provide something original, handcrafted and of high quality which cannot be found in the mass-produced market. I am also passionate about helping and encouraging people to learn to sew – especially young people which I talk about on my blog. Once a teacher, always a teacher! |
