| More About Me | I am a Mom of (soon to be) four, I love to sew and craft anything and everything having to do with fabric and textiles, and I am struggling with how to be/do both of those things! I have an abundance of knowledge and not an abundance of time but if I don't find a way of making this work I'm going to go crazy! |
| My areas of expertise that apply to handmade business: | When I graduated from high school I attended the University of Alberta majoring in Textiles, Clothing, and Culture. The program was fantastic but I wanted a program the focused more on sewing and pattern drafting so I moved to Kwantlen University College and completed a Diploma in Fashion Design. With an abundance of sewing, textile, and drafting experience and knowledge I opened a small boutique where I specialized in tall women's ready to wear clothing. I carried a variety of products that I purchased through wholesalers and suppliers and I also sold a line of clothing that was designed, drafted and produced in house. Having a house line was fantastic; I had the ability to sample styles and see the customer try them on so I could adjust fit, tweak the pattern, and do a lot of sewing! I sold items in the boutique as well as at a variety of local craft fairs and indie markets. When I started having babies (I'm now working on number four) I closed the shop and focused on custom work and consignment and wholesale sales to other local boutiques. Right now my focus has moved to custom work and pattern work, I am in the process of designing a new web site and brand that still caters to my original niche but provides a slightly different product base. I have a lot of experience in all aspects of running a business, sewing and product design and development, pattern drafting and grading, and web design and social media/web based marketing. |
