More About Me I made my first jewelry display in 1990, when our 7th grade wood shop teacher gave us the opportunity to invent our own creation. With his help and guidance, I created a wall-mounted jewelry display for my mother to organize her jewelry and keep it from being tangled up in a box and to keep her table top free. She still uses it to this day! Thankfully, she has a newer more beautiful design that I've made in more recent years as the old one is kinda clunky!:) I have been an Etsy seller for many years doing this on the side of my day job - both as a working woman and now a mother at home with two boys, 7 and 4. Next year, both of my kids will be in elementary school and so this year I am trying to move toward somehow making this hobby business into something that will also be a financial contribution to my family. I also simply love making things and building things and spreading a little bit of my joy to someone else, be it a gift for oneself or a present for a girlfriend, wife, mother, daughter or friend. With the world as busy as it is all the time, I value my tinker time so much and try to instill that in my children - where there is "boredom," there is room for creation:)
My areas of expertise that apply to handmade business: I have been scroll sawing fairly consistently since 2000 when I revisited my love for woodworking via the encouragement of a career counselor - having fallen into the financial industry, I was missing my creative self, the person who loved to make things. I had just purchased a scroll saw and began tinkering on it and making new pieces out of my inspiration to take flight doing my own thing and she was so beautifully supportive that I had the courage to keep going. Since then, it's been my side hobby business. I draw my designs, problem solve capacity requests from customers and build displays that I believe bridge beauty and function. I suppose my areas of expertise summed up would be drawing (with silhouette in mind as the shapes are cut out of the flat sheet of wood - so positive and negative space), scroll sawing, sanding, finishing with paint or wood, building for durability and designing for ease of use.
