| More About Me | I was born in Luxembourg. After obtaining a degree in Three-Dimensional Design at the University of Portsmouth, England, I continued my studies in Contemporary Jewellery at Alchimia, Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence, Italy with Prof. Manfred Bischoff and Prof. Ruudt Peters. Since 2009 I am living and working in Vienna, Austria, as a member of Atelier STOSSIMHIMMEL, Studio for Contemporary Jewellery. I find inspiration in things that we can see but are somehow unobtainable, untouchable, unreachable... I feel the need to materialize my inner landscape into my own imagined reality. In recent years I found that balsa wood, an incredibly lightweight and transformable material, allows me to do this. My process is very intuitive. I generally work directly in the material, with a vague idea in my head. The forms emerge spontaneously while carving the wood. Usually I start with a large block, I carve a rough form that will then be cut into smaller parts, that will be carved again. Thus my pieces develop simultaneously in small groups. After I create the base in wood, I start applying various paints and materials; layer by layer they grow until they mutate into something else. The material, for me, is inspiration and challenge at the same time. It is transformed in such a way that it changes completely, until it becomes something else entirely, until it becomes jewellery... |
